Attendance Policy
"Successful people are present for duty",-Rosie Romandia
Success in New School will come only if you are present.
Once you arrive on campus in the morning, Newcomers
cannot leave until 4 p.m.
You are responsible for having your parent/guardian call or write to
excuse any illnesses. Tardiness to any class equals one Attendance Policy for every 1 second-15
minutes late. If you are absent and do not bring in a written excuse or have a parent call by two
o'clock the next school day, you must attend Saturday School the following weekend to make the
time up. Missed mandates and study hall will normally be made up at Saturday School.
Excused
absences include only notification from parent of: illness, injury, medical appointment or a
funeral in the immediate family. All other absences are unexcused and must be made up the
following Saturday. Unexcused absences which need not be made up (unless it becomes chronic)
include: court appearances, absence to take care of anyone in your family, including your own
baby, or any religious reason.
It is your responsibility to turn in homework assigned on the days
you were absent. (Call a friend to get the assignment.) On our field trips, like any other school day,
attendance is required. In addition, several times a year we may have required non-school day
activities, such as car washes or camping trips. We expect all students to attend these activities as
well. (Legislation actually allows Community Day Schools to require students to attend seven days
a week.) If you have five unexcused absences in one quarter, you may be dropped.
